board meeting recap

Last week, the South Harrison Community School Board of Trustees held its first meeting of the new semester. The meeting included a review of various operational matters, Board reorganization, and student and staff presentations.

Agenda Highlights

Student Council Presentations

Student Council Vice President Layne Nunley attended the meeting to update the Board on recent student achievements, upcoming events, and other school highlights.

During the presentation, the Board paused to honor the memory of Susan Babcock, who recently passed away. Ms. Babcock dedicated 32 years of service to South Central in multiple roles, most recently as Treasurer, and was remembered for her lasting impact on the school community and the many students and staff whose lives she touched.

Additionally, Corydon Central Student Council Representative Reese Withers provided the Board with updates on the College and Career Readiness Center, recent and upcoming events, and student achievements. She also announced the 2026 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship recipient, Lincoln Greene. This scholarship provides a full ride to any Indiana college or university. This is a tremendous accomplishment, and the Board congratulates Lincoln on this outstanding academic achievement.

Board Reorganization

Each January, the Board reviews several required reports and completes its annual reorganization. The following officers were appointed for the 2026 term:

  • Mary Mathes, President

  • Karen Lopp, Vice President

  • Barbara Smith, Secretary

Lastly, the Board approved Superintendent Dr. Eastridge’s letter of retirement, effective June 30th, 2026.

South Harrison looks forward to another successful semester and welcomes students back from winter break. We appreciate our students and staff for their continued hard work and dedication, and we thank our Board members for their commitment to the South Harrison Community School Corporation. We look forward to another safe, supportive, and successful semester for students, staff, and families.
